Immersive mixing creates a three-dimensional sound space where sounds can be placed all around the listener, including overhead. Unlike stereo, which spreads a scene between two speakers, an immersive mix adds depth, precision and realism. The goal isn't to pile on effects, but to strengthen the emotion, clarity and artistic intent of the project.

In stereo, everything is split between a left and a right channel. Immersive mixing adds a third dimension by letting sounds be positioned all around the listener. That freedom isn't just for spectacular effects: it also improves clarity, helps separate instruments more clearly, and reproduces the acoustics of a space — or an artistic intention — more faithfully.

Not necessarily. When a mix session is well organised and the individual tracks are available, it's often possible to build a Dolby Atmos mix from the existing project. A plain stereo export, however, isn't enough for a genuine immersive mix: you need the separated elements (stems or multitracks) to make full use of what the format offers.

Yes, as long as the necessary tracks are available. The more separated the elements (vocals, instruments, effects, ambiences…), the greater the creative possibilities. If only the stereo master exists, a genuine immersive mix generally isn't possible under good conditions.

It mainly depends on how your project will be distributed. Dolby Atmos is currently one of the most widely adopted immersive formats for music, film and streaming platforms. Eclipsa Audio is an open alternative backed by Google and Samsung, while Sony 360 Reality Audio is mostly geared toward music. Our role is to advise you on the format best suited to your project, without steering you toward one technology by default.

Immersive mixes are now available on many platforms and compatible devices. Depending on the format, they can be heard on music streaming services, in some cinemas, on compatible home cinema systems, or on headphones thanks to binaural rendering.

No. Immersive mixes can be produced in various environments. A certified suite, however, guarantees that acoustics, speaker placement and calibration meet Dolby's requirements — giving a reliable listening environment for decisions that will translate correctly on compatible playback systems.
